    <触媒学会からの選考理由>
    寺村氏は,単一の活性種を形成することが可能な高分散担持金属酸化物光触媒に着目して,耐溶媒性,耐水性を付与した光触媒としてアルミナ担持バナジウムを見出し,難しいと考えられてきた液相反応へ展開することに成功した.分子状酸素を用いた,シクロヘキサン,トルエン,ベンゼン等の炭化水素の部分酸化に適用し,環境負荷の小さい常温・常圧・無溶媒条件下での高難度液相選択酸化を高い選択率で達成している.また同氏は,光ルミネッセンスを活用してバナジウム種が三重項励起状態に至る光励起機構を解明した.さらに,励起状態となったバナジウム種上での酸化反応機構についても,FT-IR,同位体を用いた反応,速度論解析等の手法を駆使した丁寧な解析により,原子レベルでの詳細な解明に至っている.以上のように,寺村氏は高分散担持金属酸化物光触媒の研究に新たな展開を示すことに成功した.よって,同氏の業績は触媒学会奨励賞に値するものと認めた.
